Terra Madre Day Celebrates Local Food

The second worldwide Terra Madre Day is being held in recognition of the importance of supporting local food networks. In 2009 the very first Terra Madre Day was organized by Slow Food and saw more than 1,000 events take place across 120 countries in one of the largest collective occasions celebrating food diversity and the right to good, clean and fair food ever achieved on a global scale.

Convened in Turin every two years since in 2004, Terra Madre is “a world meeting of food communities” bringing together “the food and agricultural production sectors of 150 countries who are committed to defend and promote production that respects the environment, safeguards food biodiversity and advocates social justice.” 

It is Slow Food’s major event.
