We had seven new products released at the LCBO this past weekend:
At release, the wine has a deep crimson red colour to the centre with a youthful purple hue to the edges. There are lifted aromas of dark cherry fruit along with subtle choc-mint and a hint of eucalypt. On the palate, this is a rich, full-bodied wine with intense flavours of cassis and blackberry fruit along with attractive oak characters of cigar box and tobacco leaf. Overall, the wine is well balanced with complex, well-integrated, elegant tannins providing structure and an intense, persistent length to the finish.
94 Pts & Gold & Exceptional – tastings.com, July 20, 2021
“Bright black garnet color. Aromas and flavors of mulberry, coriander, eucalyptus, mesquite, and licorice with a round, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity medium-full body and a warming, distinctive, endless finish displaying accents of mint-chocolate gelato, raspberry macaron, chocolate ganache, and cafe breve with heavy oak flavor. A sultry, spicy and fantastically textured Cabernet Sauvignon sure to please most any Aussie wine lover.”
The Prosecco Rosé presents itself revealing an elegant pink hue with copper highlights and a lively and persistent perlage. Its aromatic freshness offers a bouquet of red fruits and floral scents in particular notes of pomegranate and rose. On the palate it is silky and full, with a very pleasant balance. 100% Glera & Pinot Noir
Food pairing: Excellent as an aperitif. Ideal companion of finger foods, linguine pasta, delicate cheeses and pastries.
94 Pts – Luca Maroni, July 8 2021
“The 2019 J. Lohr Riverstone Chardonnay exhibits youthful hues of light straw. The enticing aromas are reminiscent of ripe orange, fresh nectarine, and hazelnut, which are complemented by the palate flavors of apricot, ripe peach, and honey. The rich texture and balance on the palate from aging sur lie gives way to flavors of vanilla, citrus cream, and a hint of oak on the long finish” – Kristen Barnhisel, winemaker, white wines
Food pairing: This wine can be enjoyed with a variety of dishes, including roast chicken with peas and mushrooms, pan roasted halibut in butter, or shrimp scampi.
94 Pts & Platinum – San Diego International Wine Challenge 2021
Brightly coloured, purple red. It releases a bouquet of red berries and macerated cherries with slightly toasted overtones and hints of cocoa and coffee. The taste is supple, full and balanced, of excellent length and persistence. 100% Corvina
Food pairing: Well-paired with grilled and skewered meats as well as very well seasoned cheeses.
93 Pts – Luca Maroni, August 8, 2019
Bright yellow with shiny golden inserts. At first, satisfying weave of apple, pineapple, mango, passion fruit, followed by Jasmine blossom, vanilla and hints of rosemary to compose an intriguing nose. The taste is fresh, with good body. Savory finish, with reminds of cedar zest. 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Petit Manseng, 10% Traminer, 5% Semillon
Food pairing: Sea bass in pistachio crust; spaghetti with sea urchins; asparagus with butter.
92 Pts – Monica Larner, robertparker.com, November 5, 2020
“This is a Tuscan white wine with a huge following, and deservedly so. The Fattoria le Pupille 2019 Poggio Argentato is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng, Traminer and Semillon. The wine broaches a mid-weight texture, showing some creamy density and waxiness, but it ultimately pulls back to a lean-bodied approach that is pushed forward by the wine’s bright and snappy acidity. It delivers aromas of orchard fruit, tangerine skin, sweet almond and poached pear. It has the 360-degree latitude to pair with vegetarian dishes, fish or white meat.”
This wine offers much more than expected. Fruity and intense flavour, accompanied by round tannins, enough to give the wine a strong character, yet remaining very easy to drink. Complex fruit aromas, ripe red fruits and cinnamon spice. balanced and auspicious flavours, full of fruit, gentle spice and smooth tannins. An elegant wine by all measures. 40% Tinta Roriz, 30% Touriga Franca, 30% Touriga Nacional
Food pairing: lamb, grilled steak, small group of friends or by yourself
89 Pts – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, August 1, 2020
“Aged in wood, this wine has rich spicy flavors and dark tannins. Still very young, its wood aging shows strongly, but will calm down as the wine matures. Black fruits are developing to balance the wood and bring in the final acidity. Drink from 2021.”
Pale yellow colour with green hues. Fresh fruit apple, peach. Well structured wine, nice acid frame typical of the chalky terroir of Vouvray. 100% Chenin Blanc
Food pairing: Fruit salads, spicy cuisine, Thai specialities.
