This past Wednesday, Nella Cucina had the pleasure of hosting a private event for Les Domestiques. The Toronto based cycling team took in an evening of dinner and drinks hosted by some of Toronto’s most notable Italian chefs. The night featured:

  • Alessandro Buccianti of Falasca S.P.Q.R
  • Luca Stracquadanio of La Bettola di Terroni,
  • Giacomo Pasquini of  Vertical restaurant.
  • Daniel Mezzelo of Gusto 101

The theme of the evening was ‘Giro d’Italia’ and the night’s proceedings mimicked the traditional ‘Giro’ cycling race that takes place each year over a three-week period throughout Italy. Courses were broken down into ‘stages’ and 50 guests were guided on an extensive and authentic eating tour of Italy. Each stretch of the ‘race’ was accompanied by an appropriately regional dish that was specific to the hometowns of each Italian chef. The authenticity and forethought of each dish was undeniable as every chef carefully explained the lineage and importance of their regional fare.

Beginning the evening in Modica, Sicily, Luca Stracquadanio started guests with a swordfish carpaccio complete with Sicilian orange, fennel and pistachio. Next, in Rome, bruschetta al pomodoro followed by Tortiglioni alla Matriciana was served for the second stretch of the race by Allesandro Buccianti of Falasca S.P.Q.R, a Sgroppino (Lemon gelato topped with vodka and prosecco) was also served to cleanse the palate before Daniel Mezzolo’s ‘Noci de Capesante’ from San Daniele was presented. Consisting of a large sea scallop complete with sea asparagus, buffalo mozzarella and proscuitto di San Daniele broth.

The last stretch of the tour included Giacomo Pasquini’s incredible Brodetto di Senigallia with an arrangement of fresh and beautiful seafood. The final stretch was concluded as guests made their ‘way back’ to Modica for Cannoli Siciliani.

Eating their way through 2448 kilometers of Italy seemed a little less grueling than the actual race itself and we didn’t hear any complaints. Without having to leave their seats, guests were able to experience four different regions of Italian cuisine and some of the city’s freshest talent.

Nella Cucina would love to host your next event, so please let us know if you’re interested in booking an evening to remember.  All interested parties can contact events@nellacucina.ca for more information on booking a private party or corporate function.
