For the fourth year in a row, the Drake Hotel played host to the Earth Day Canada fundraiser. On the evening of February 28, at Parts and Labour on Parkdale’s Queen Street strip, The Stop Community Food Centre launched it’s March-long Stop for Food program. Participating restaurants (click here for the full list) across Toronto will give a portion of the price of a special prix-fixe menu directly to The Stop. To make the party interesting, two teams of young chefs, each led by one of Parts and Labour’s two chefs, Matty Matheson and Matt deMille, competed in a competition.

Happily munching on Chef Anthony Rose’s suckling pig and foie gras sandwiches and drawing steadily on an ever present pint of Creemore (he adapts quickly to local custom, Bourdain), the man of the hour was the epitome of calm and cool. And friendly and funny and pretty much just like the character on his television shows and the narrative voice in his books. There are few things as pleasingly life affirming than finding out your hero is a decent guy.
