The Local CFC’s Director Steve Stacey in his new greenhouse.

This week we travel to Stratford to visit Steve Stacey, Director of The Local Community Food Centre.

I first met Steve just before Xmas of 2011 and at the time we discussed his ambitions for The Local CFC. That night, so impressed with his vision, I promised to return to visit him when his plans came to fruition.

The Local is a pilot replication project for The Stop CFC in Toronto, established in 2011 as a division of the United Way of Perth-Huron.

The Local plans to provide “A Place For Food” in Stratford, “where the community can come together to access, grow, prepare, share, and advocate for good food”

When fully operational The Local will provide a food distribution centre to supplement healthy food to food banks, community gardens and a greenhouse, the service of nutritious drop-in meals, as well as community cooking and food education sessions.

Steve was visibly excited to show me around his new digs and explain the evolution of this marvellous project.
